Bell Biv DeVoe and Funk You to Headline Fall Market Center Stage

HIGH POINT, N.C., August 12, 2024 – The High Point Market Authority (HPMA) announces Bell Biv DeVoe (BBD) and Funk You as this season’s Center Stage headliners for Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27.

Formed in Boston in 1989, BBD is known for its debut album Poison, which hit number three on Billboard’s charts in 1990, with Poison, the single, reaching number one on Billboard’s R&B/Hip Hop charts. Key players in the new jack swing movement of 1990s R&B and hip hop, BBD was awarded Best R&B/Urban Contemporary album of the Year by the Soul Train Music Awards for Poison in 1991. In 2012, the group received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Soul Train, and in 2023 won an Emmy for BBD at Fenway, a documentary showcasing a Fenway Park performance with the Boston Pop Orchestra.

Out of Augusta, Georgia, Funk You hit the music scene in 2011 with its debut album Funk You, followed by its 2012 sequel Funk You II. Apparitions (2016) catapulted Funk You’s success, with over one million plays on Spotify for the album’s She’s So High. Since then, Funk You has performed at the nation’s hottest music festivals, such as SweetWater 420 Festival, Summer Camp Music Festival and Peach Music Festival.

HPMA has partnered with City of Hope, the presenting partner for Sunday’s evening concert. The supporting sponsor for Saturday’s performance is Interior Design Society.

“We’re delighted to showcase these two performing groups at Center Stage for Fall Market,” says Tammy Covington Nagem, president and CEO of HPMA. “After registering to attend the trade show in October, mark your calendars to enjoy two nights of music, food and Market friends.”

The evening concert is only open to registered High Point Market attendees. A valid Fall 2024 Market pass is required for entry. Doors open at 6:30pm before the concert begins at 7pm. Early entry for buyers starts at 6:15pm. Entry for ages under 15 is not permitted. Complimentary food and beverage will be provided.

Qualifying registrants will be issued a Market pass for the trade show scheduled for October 26-30. In addition to Center Stage access, a pass is required for entry into buildings and showrooms across the 13-block Market District.
