High Point Market - Announces the 2017 Style Spotters Team

High Point, NC, November 15, 2016 — The High Point Market Authority (HPMA) recently debuted the long-awaited identities of the 2017 Style Spotters team. The announcement was made live during the Fall 2016 High Point Market as part of the Style Spotters LIVE! event on Tuesday, October 25.

After a panel discussion about trends seen at Fall Market and an overview of top product picks by the 2016 Style Spotters team, Style Spotter Emeritus Michelle Jennings Wiebe welcomed special guest Ann Maine, editor-in-chief of Traditional Home, to the podium for the first-ever live announcement of the up-and-coming Style Spotters team.

Another first for the program, the 2017 team is comprised of design duos, designers who work together and brand themselves as a team. Instead of 8 individual influencers, the 2017 team is composed of four pairs, including:

The 2017 Style Spotters team will be led again by Style Spotter Emeritus Michelle Jennings Wiebe, president and founder of Studio M, Inc. in Tampa, FL. Wiebe will mentor the group, assist with the group’s preparation for each Market, moderate the panel for the Style Spotters LIVE! event and write the introduction for two Style Reports.

“I’m so excited to lead another Style Spotters team through the upcoming Markets,” commented Wiebe. “It’s a strong team with a lot of experience and a great variety of styles and design aesthetics.”

Style Spotters are charged with scouring the Market to find their favorite products and top trends, leaving behind a card on each item they “spot”. These finds are then posted to the High Point Market Pinterest boards and contribute to the two Style Reports (April and October) that the HPMA produces.

This new Style Spotters team will begin in January and work through both 2017 Markets – April 22 - 26 and October 14 – 18. Tom Conley, president and CEO of the High Point Market Authority, commented, “We are excited about what this diverse team will bring to High Point Market with their individual styles, social media followings and their ability to spot trends affecting the home furnishings industry.”

The Style Spotters program launched during the Fall 2011 Market as home fashion trendsetters that showcase their favorite products and top trends from Market exhibitors on Pinterest. The HPMA put the 2017 team together by using a combination of self-identified and well-known candidates, with an impartial vetting and selection committee, and sought a diverse and geographically balanced group. Former Style Spotter Beth Dotolo, along with her design duo Carolina Gentry, both co-founders of Pulp Design Studios, and Wiebe were crucial participants on the selection committee.

Additionally, for the second year in a row, the High Point Market Authority partnered with a top shelter publication, Traditional Home, in the selection of Tami Ramsay and Krista Nye Nicholas of CLOTH & KIND as one of this year’s Style Spotter duos. The team was named one Traditional Home magazine’s “Top 10 New Trad Designers” for 2016.

Market attendees will be invited to join the Style Spotters at both 2017 Markets on Tuesday morning of Market Week at 9:00am for Style Spotters LIVE!, a free event at which the Style Spotters will discuss the top trends and products they found at Market. This event is immediately followed by the Style Spotters Trend Tours, which are led by individual Style Spotters and encompass all corners of Market. These tours are an opportunity for attendees to receive guided tours through two of a Style Spotters’ favorite showrooms.

High Point Market has received international recognition as one of the top brands using Pinterest, most recently winning the 2014 “Best Use of Social Media” E.X.C.I.T.E. Award. Social media and branding experts have touted the Market’s Style Spotters program as a unique way to take advantage of brand building on Pinterest.
